Marching Tutorials

We spend a lot more time working on music than we do on marching, but we can still use a little marching help now and then to look SHARP.

Want another way to amuse yourself during a parade? We learned this move for the YMCA Street Routine, but now we occasionally do it in the middle of parades just to amuse ourselves. Here are instructions on How to Do the 8-Count Spin. It looks waaaaay cool when your whole row does it together!

2024 Parade Music List

At the January 2015 All-Band Meeting, folks suggested that it would be helpful if we had a list of 6-8 parade tunes to focus on for the season. That's enough tunes to give us week-to-week variety, but still narrows the list for people who want to work on memorizing parade tunes.

We'll use this set of tunes as our "2024 standard parade tunes":

TBGO Active Play List

Here is the complete list of active tunes currently in TBGO's "book". There are music rehearsal notes available for many of the tunes; check 'em out and mark your parts.

Since there's a lot of music on the list, the tunes are "heat-coded" to make it easier for you to tell which tunes to practice first. Hot tunes are in the play list very frequently; Warm tunes show up with medium frequency (especially in longer gigs); Cold tunes are used rarely or for "the right occasion". Dormant tunes are currently not in the play list and won't be played unless we specifically rehearse them to bring them back into the list and upgrade their temperature. There are enough Dormant tunes that they've now been moved to a separate list (further below)

Tunes that we use primarily for Christmas events are noted. Tunes that we use primarily for Patriotic events (Fourth of July, Veterans Day, etc) are similarly noted.

Tunes that we use on the Parade route are marked. Tunes are both Hot and Parade should be highest on your priority list. Parade tunes are also good songs to memorize; parades are lots more fun if you don't have to spend half your time staring just past the end of your nose, and if it's memorized you don't have to worry about lighting for night parades.

Here are the places we rehearse (or have rehearsed). See the "Location" column of the rehearsal schedules to determine where each practice is being held.


	Beaverton High School,13000 SW 2nd St, Beaverton. Specific location on campus willl be added later. Click here for a map or personalized directions.
	Cedar Hills Recreation Center, 11640 SW Park Way in Beaverton. Take the Cedar Hills Blvd exit from US 26 and proceed south; turn right at SW Parkway (at traffic light), then left into the Rec Center parking lot. Use the north door entrance to reach the gym. Map.
	Elsie Stuhr Center, 5550 SW Hall Blvd in Beaverton. From OR 217, take Allen Blvd west to Hall Blvd. Turn right (north) on Hall Blvd for approx 0.2 mi; the Center is on the right. Map.
	Garden Home Recreation Center,7475 SW Oleson Rd. Corner of Oleson Road and Garden Home Road. Best route depends strongly on where you're coming from, click here for a map or personalized directions. Look for the gymnasium.
	Hillsboro Community / Senior Center, 750 SE 8th Ave, Hillsboro. Located directly behind Shute Park. Click here for a map or personalized directions. We are in the Dining Hall (largest room at the Center).
	Jesuit High School, 9000 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy. The band room is located in the southwest corner of the Performing Arts Center. Please be sure you do NOT enter the football field parking lot at its west end (opposite SW White Pine Ln) since that end is exit-only. Click here for map and directions to Jesuit High School.
	Multnomah Arts Center, 7688 SW Capitol Hwy. If we are meeting outdoors we are on the bsketball court under cover on the west side of the building.
	Multnomah Presbyterian Church, 7555 SW 45th Ave. About 1.5 mi east of our usual rehearsal spot at Garden Home Rec Center. 	Southwest Bible Church, 14605 SW Weir Rd, Beaverton. Church is located at the northwest corner of SW Murray Blvd and SW Weir Rd. We will meet in the parking lot. Click here for a map or personalized directions.

	West Hills Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 6501 SW Multnomah Blvd. This is a few blocks east of Garden Home Recreation Center (our typical practice spot). The fellowship hall is the building on the left as you pull into the lot. Map.
